Heart-in-hand

Thanks to First Things for picking up

for First Links. Both poems appear in print and online editions of Books and Culture, edited by John Wilson. The piece of music by Eric Whitacre in "The Mineral Night" can be found here. "A Child in the Likeness of God" was written after reading a report on the condition of unjustly imprisoned and tortured girls and women in a place far away.

That love-offering hand at right is an image by Clive Hicks-Jenkins for long poem Thaliad. (See tabs above for information about my books.) Click on his name and try his artlog if you haven't!

Soon I'll be in beautiful Jonesborough, Tennessee--oldest town in the state. Enjoy your day and your precious freedom in the sun or rain!

  4. "A Child" is as powerful as it needs to be, which is saying a lot, considering the subject.

  5. Nice job, Marly. Blunt, and troublingly memorable.

    1. I'm very glad you find it so--"troublingly memorable" is a good thing for such a piece.

Alas, I must once again remind large numbers of Chinese salesmen and other worldwide peddlers that if they fall into the Gulf of Spam, they will be eaten by roaming Balrogs. The rest of you, lovers of grace, poetry, and horses (nod to Yeats--you do not have to be fond of horses), feel free to leave fascinating missives and curious arguments.
