Seek Giacometti’s “The Palace at 4 a.m.” Go back two hours. See towers and curtain walls of matchsticks, marble, marbles, light, cloud at stasis. Walk in. The beggar queen is dreaming on her throne of words…You have arrived at the web home of Marly Youmans, maker of novels, poetry collections, and stories, as well as the occasional fantasy for younger readers.

This is just to say
that I absolutely love this piece about Glimmerglass. It's by writer Scott G. F. Bailey.

Alas, I must once again remind large numbers of Chinese salesmen and other worldwide peddlers that if they fall into the Gulf of Spam, they will be eaten by roaming Balrogs. The rest of you, lovers of grace, poetry, and horses (nod to Yeats--you do not have to be fond of horses), feel free to leave fascinating missives and curious arguments.

Absolutely marvellous review!! ( I notice that Scott's name is rather hard to find on his site.)
ReplyDeleteI am now even more impatient to start reading my copy but dang, my current book from the library is taking me a long time to get through, and it's already been renewed once. Glimmerglass will be my sweet reward!
Yes, I hadn't noticed till commenters made a mistake on his name--clearly he is too modest!
DeleteI had to think about my library fines... Oh, well, supporting a good cause.
Every now and then someone says something that defies amendment and improvement. Such is Scott's celebration of your book. I wish I had said it all first. Now, I simply defer to him by saying, "Yes! I agree!"
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tim... He does have a lovely, fresh way about him. But I like your words too.
DeletePostscript: Like Scott, I am not quite finished. But I'm getting there, and I am mesmerized while on the journey.
ReplyDeleteGood! Soon I shall have to pop by and see what else you've been doing.
