Seek Giacometti’s “The Palace at 4 a.m.” Go back two hours. See towers and curtain walls of matchsticks, marble, marbles, light, cloud at stasis. Walk in. The beggar queen is dreaming on her throne of words… You have arrived at the web home of Marly Youmans, maker of novels, poems, and stories, as well as the occasional fantasy. D. G. Myers: "A writer who has more resolutely stood her ground against the tide of literary fashion would be difficult to name."

Besançon Christmas

Alas, I must once again remind large numbers of Chinese salesmen and other worldwide peddlers that if they fall into the Gulf of Spam, they will be eaten by roaming Balrogs. The rest of you, lovers of grace, poetry, and horses (nod to Yeats--you do not have to be fond of horses), feel free to leave fascinating missives and curious arguments.
'tis Christmas Day but not officially. Our house still slumbereth. I have nothing historical or mystical to offer but I will later drink to our friendship. A precious thing that must be celebrated.
ReplyDeleteMerry 2nd day of Christmas! Just barely here... but perhaps you are wandering around the house in the early morning there. I had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Day--and I, too, am very glad of your friendship!
DeleteMerry Christmas! We are surrounded by unpacked moving boxes in our new home, and I am recovering from an idiotic fall I took down the stairs as we moved out of the old place. A snake is wintering in our new basement, the heat works, the well water is freakishly pure, and the surrounding woods are full of birds. Hope your Christmas week is as pleasant as ours!
ReplyDeleteHow could it be? You sound as if you have found your own little Eden--though coming after the unfortunate Fall--and the snake is asleep.
DeleteMerry 4th day of Christmas!
