Seek Giacometti’s “The Palace at 4 a.m.” Go back two hours. See towers and curtain walls of matchsticks, marble, marbles, light, cloud at stasis. Walk in. The beggar queen is dreaming on her throne of words… You have arrived at the web home of Marly Youmans, maker of novels, poems, and stories, as well as the occasional fantasy. D. G. Myers: "A writer who has more resolutely stood her ground against the tide of literary fashion would be difficult to name."

A gap in The House of Words + Travels

Alas, I must once again remind large numbers of Chinese salesmen and other worldwide peddlers that if they fall into the Gulf of Spam, they will be eaten by roaming Balrogs. The rest of you, lovers of grace, poetry, and horses (nod to Yeats--you do not have to be fond of horses), feel free to leave fascinating missives and curious arguments.
Have a wonderful trip!! Give yourself a break, definitely :).
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fantastic trip ahead - you deserve it - but we expect a full report on your return. Bon Voyage and have a great time!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to be in Birmingham Alabama? If so I will hop in my doombuggy and be on my way!
ReplyDeleteHannah and marja-leena--
ReplyDeleteThank you for the good travel-wishes!
Susanna,
That is indeed a thought, but no, alas, I am not going to be in Alabama any time soon. But I could, some day when I am in western North Carolina, and perhaps I shall.
I am going to fly to Birmingham, England, and then I am taking the train to Aberystwyth, Wales. I'll post something more then!
Bon voyage, Marly!
ReplyDeleteHappy Trails to you, Dear Marly...oh, i think i already said that, maybe? Well, it is what i wish for you. X2, i guess! :^)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip! Just now, I'm wishing I could crawl into your suitcase and go along. Perhaps virtually? In spirit, anyhow.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip, give them all a big hug from me!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everybody--
ReplyDeleteHugs have been given, pictures and walks taken, etc. Have some images of the show in process that will be very interesting I hope. I would post them now except that I only took along an iPad...
