Seek Giacometti’s “The Palace at 4 a.m.” Go back two hours. See towers and curtain walls of matchsticks, marble, marbles, light, cloud at stasis. Walk in. The beggar queen is dreaming on her throne of words… You have arrived at the web home of Marly Youmans, maker of novels, poems, and stories, as well as the occasional fantasy. D. G. Myers: "A writer who has more resolutely stood her ground against the tide of literary fashion would be difficult to name."

Glimmerglass, the postcard--

Alas, I must once again remind large numbers of Chinese salesmen and other worldwide peddlers that if they fall into the Gulf of Spam, they will be eaten by roaming Balrogs. The rest of you, lovers of grace, poetry, and horses (nod to Yeats--you do not have to be fond of horses), feel free to leave fascinating missives and curious arguments.
Ooh, I found it! Save me a star. (And thanks for the practice before I actually get to work today.)
ReplyDeleteNo doubt it is glittering on your brow in proper Romantic style, Ms. Julie the editor...
DeleteThough it may make you throw those peculiar effusions from the sciences out the window and scribble poems all day!
DeleteToday I'll be reading about culturing for diagnosis of infection with Bartonella species. "Bartonella" sounds vaguely romantic, right?
ReplyDeletePerhaps you could manage to work on Bartonella in Barcelona. Then I am sure you could be especially romantic.
DeleteI found it! Do I tell? Stars always welcome :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely postcard, a keeper.
Yes, just imagine your head topped with a discrete gold crown with large sparkly star!
DeleteFound the error—but how nice that your publisher has designed a postcard! Some people who've published with the Big Five can't say the same.
ReplyDeleteThat's very true... I had four hardcover first editions with FSG, and I had one postcard, and certainly not 1K copies.
